Hong Kong offers an outstanding public health system, comprising hospitals, clinics, and specialist care. Anyone can take advantage of its high-quality, low-cost services, but locals and residents pay considerably lower rates. International students with a valid visa benefit from paying local rates for healthcare.

On your first visit to any public health provider, you'll be given a small booklet containing your personal details and health records. Don't lose it, or you'll be charged for a new one!
Although health insurance is not mandatory for students, some universities may require you to purchase accident, hospitalization, and evacuation coverage before you begin your studies.

There is an on-campus clinic in most of the universities in Hong Kong providing free or affordable health care to students, which may even include dental serivce. If students opt for private clinics, it costs from $200 to $300 per consultation.

Fees for basic public health services are as follows; most amounts include the cost of prescribed medications:

Accident and Emergency:
$100 per visit
In-patient:
$68-100 per day, plus $50 admission fee
General out-patient:
$45 per visit
Specialist out-patient care:
$100 for first visit, $60 per visit thereafter, $10 per drug item
Dressing and injection:
$17 per treatment
